Translated as \"Free State Heritage. Nineteenth-century architecture and building\", this Schoeman book was dedicated to Professor P J Nienaber in appreciation for his contribution to the preservation of this province\'s past.
Colour laminated photographic dustjacket overlaid with a band announcing the book as the winner of the Recht Malan Prize.(This is awarded annually to the best non-fiction book in Afrikaans or English published during the year. Recht Malan was a writer from the 1930s and 1970s. One of his books, Ou Boland - Nasionale Pers, 1939 - first appeared in Die Huisgenoot.) This was one of Karel Schoeman\'s many awards over a career that has included major research of the Free State and many fiction and non-fiction titles in English and Afrikaans.
The green cloth-boards, white lettered to the spine, the plain white endpapers, the 152 pp of text + 70 monochrome illustrations + appendixes and index, and the inserted art-paper section with 129 captioned colour photographs are all in unmarked as new condition.
