Andrew Steedman was an 1820 Settler. In 1825-26 he travelled extensively in the Transkei and adjacent native territory and in 1830 left on an extensive tour of the Cape Colony which took him as far as Colesburg, again visiting Kaffraria .His third journey in 1831 had to be aborted at Griquatown due to ill health. Steedman amassed a great collection of zoological and botanical specimens which he took to London and displayed at the 'Colosseum' in Regent's Park. This display, along with a comprehensive catalogue, 'The African Glen', was one of the principal attractions in London in 1834.
The following year, 1835, he published, 'WANDERINGS AND ADVENTURES IN THE INTERIOR OF SOUTHERN AFRICA'. (Standard Encyclopedia of Southern Africa)
