Colonel Stratford St Leger served with Colonel Alderson's Mounted Infantry, and the 66 full-page illustrations alone are 66 reasons to own this book. The majority feature horses, and many of the sketches were published in the 'Black & White' weekly. His text deals with events from the siege and relief of Kimberley, Sanna's Post, Klipriversberg. A chapter relates 'Life on commando' as related to the author by an anonymous burgher.

Red, yellow, & gilt decorated blue cloth boards. top edgg gilt. 274pp illustrated colour & monochrome plates, line sketches in the text.

No inscription. eps tanned and minor foxing here and there throughout. all illustrations with tissue guards present. cloth lifting at rear adjacent to spine, worn at head and tail of spine, but still retains a bright attractiveness.
