5 volumes, frontispiece portrait in each volume, 20 photogravure portraits, 20 tinted plates and many black & white text illustrations, pictorial khaki cloth, all edges gilt, the original cloth on each volume with varying amounts of staining. Overall, this is a good set.
The 20 photogravure plates are impressive, and of important military and citizens of the time.
An advertisement for the set of books at the end of the first volume states, 'To be completed in about four volumes, at 10s. 6d. each, specially bound in Khaki, as worn by the British Troops on active service.'
