The translator corresponded with the author over a long period, obtaining permission for the translation of What I Saw in South Africa [1903] (because of the book's considerable historical interest, written as it had been by an independent observer, and because the English original was then rare and costly).
The grey card wraps, black to sides i and ii, have been strengthened with a black Skivertex spine. 220 pp of text with a few b/w photographs from the original English edition in the text and a frontispiece photograph of the author + 3 pp of publisher's announcements. The wraps are lightly stained. The contents are complete and unmarked.
