No dustjacket. Blue cloth-boards gilt lettered to spine. Plain endpapers. xiv + 312 pp of text, bibliography and index + frontispiece and 11 other pp of inserted plates + 2 maps.
The spine-ends are lightly bumped and there is a small and unobtrusive damp stain at the lower corner of the upper board. The endpapers are unmarked. There are a few pencil notes in the margins, but no ink. Nor is there any foxing or other discolouration of the text. The political map of Southern Africa at the back is present, but there is no map at p 150, where the list of illustrations indicates "Native Areas in the Union of South Africa"; but there is a table with this information on p 151.
