Octavo (8 1/2 x 5 3/4inches; 216 x 146mm). 7 plates and numerous vignettes and decorations, all after Nicholson. Contemporary red morocco gilt, bound for Brentano's in Paris by Vauthrin-Pezet of Paris, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, publisher's decorated endpapers bound in as free-endpapers, top edges gilt (repairs to joints, spine removed during the repairs and replaced upside down [!]). Limited edition signed by both Sassoon and Nicholson, number 51 of 300 copies. The de luxe issue of the first illustrated edition of Sassoon's masterwork ..... with the spine upside down (I assume the spine could be removed [again] and replaced the correct way up?)
