Harold Macmillan, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to the Houses of Parliament, Cape Town, on Wednesday, 3rd February , 1960, booklet, full page photographic image of the address, speech in full, cartridge paper, 17 pages, 200 x 325mm, small tear (20mm) on lower edge of front cover and first page, overall condition: very good.

The " Wind of Change " speech was historically important, internationally, as it acknowledged the rise of African Nationalism and consequently an implied criticism of his hosts, and domestically (U.K.),as he described a process of decolonization and loss of Empire which did not sit well with his parliamentary colleagues.

"The wind of change is blowing through this continent, and whether we like it or not, this growth of national consciousness is a political fact. We must all accept it as a fact, and our national policies must take account of it." (page 8).
