A personal memoir of a 19thC life in service as a military man, and later as a magistrate, mainly in the Eastern Cape, and including taking part in many military events with the Frontier Armed Mounted Police (FAMP, joined in 1855) and the Cape Mounted Rifles (CMR). This provides interesting insights into the times. He saw and gave service throughout the Eastern Cape, Free State, and Basutoland.
Neat ownership inscription front pastedown, light foxing throughout particularly preliminaries, front hinges parting to mull but still sound, rear hinge starting but tight. spine a little sunned, soft at head and tail of spine, overall however a clean-looking copy, G++ condition.
