How it works

Register

100 pages, [11] pages of plates: illustrated, portraits. Embossed cloth, faded on spine and with some staining. Tear to one plate. Blue pencil marks on another. Name and date on front free endpaper. This fragile volume is seldom seen.

Recruited from the rural districts of the Cape and comprising 1200 men of "coloured" descent, the Battalion trained near Cape Town before moving to Beira by train and thence up to the Zambesi and Nyasaland. After more training they saw action against the German forces under Von Lettow Vorbeck. The difficult conditions and privations of the Campaign are well described.
