The retained portions of the original cover are somewhat rubbed and browned; some spotting; occasional fingering; map a little browned. (Hackett, pp. 61, 170; Mendelssohn II, p. 32) "A record of operations of the force commanded by Maj.-Gen. Rundle. Details are given of the composition of the corps together with accounts of engagements and marches from mid-April 1900 to the close of the campaign. Much of the narrative relates to events in the eastern sector of Orange River Colony. An extensive casualty list by regiment is included, compiled from official records." - Hackett: South African War Books, p. 61.
