4 volumes, 716 + 1008 pages (the two parts each continuously paginated), 2 folding maps, prolifically illustrated throughout with photographs and sketches by war artists, publisher's red cloth over bevelled boards decorated with British heraldic symbols – the cloth is dull and soiled, bindings are a little loose and the corners bumped, some small marginal tears in the margins.
