One of the most important reference sources on the Portuguese East Africa, a compendium compiled by the Geographical Section of the Naval Intelligence Division, Naval staff and Admiralty, gives a complete overview about Portuguese East Africa until 1920. This work consists of twelve chapters on 512 pages (Geographical outlines; Climate; Vegetation and animals; Inhabitants; Government and Trading Companies; Agriculture, economic plants, and live-stock; Mining and other industries; Commerce; Communications (I); Communications (II); History; Political and economic conclusions).

- The chapter "Government and Trading Companies" contains the sections "Mozambique Company", "Zambezia Company" and "Nyassa Company" with a detailed descriptions of all important aspects of the companies;

- The sections "Mozambique Company's Territory" and "Nyassa Company's territory" covering a detailed description of all important facts about both territories (including an exhausted description of all tribes in the territory);

- The chapter "Mining and Other Industries" contains the sections "Mineral areas", "Manica", "Tete", "Southern districts" and "Northern districts", etc.;

This is an extremely rare copy of this precious work, hard to find even in National and University Libraries - and the only copy selling on internet!

Gilt title to the spine; Text in English; Collation complete - Title page, 552 pages, including Index; Ex-library copy with labels to the front and rear pastedown and cancellation stamp to the front free endpaper, library stamps to the blank preliminary page. Binding is tight and firm, with usual shelf wears and wears from the use, mostly to the extremities. Board and spine extremities bumped. Boards with a light discolouration, spine sunned. Chipped extremities of the spine and starting short tears of cloth to the lower joints. The joints and hinges are generally secure, only rear hinge little weak with a few small starting surface tears to the free endpaper. Text block/pages are clean and very bright, no foxing or markings throughout, with slight yellowing more to the margins, insignificant traces of wetting to the lower corners (only at the end of the text block). Title page with insignificant traces of an previously erased old annotation by pencil (over the title). A sound copy.
