Yellow cloth boards, 236 pages with map (Prehistoric gold and copper mines in Rhodesia and adjoining areas) in envelope on inside back. Lower corners bumped, wear and tears to dj with some loss, text pages clean, map in fine condition.

Overall a good copy of a scarce title on ancient mining in southern Africa.

"Over a century ago European explorers found gold in Rhodesia, even before it was known on the Witwatersrand, but centuries earlier the 'Ancients' had mined and exported it.

"By combining the records of the Mines Department, the recollections of prospectors and miners, the findings of geologists and archaeologists, the writings of chroniclers (mainly Portuguese) and the tribal memory of African peoples, it has been possible to put together the story of mining and trading going back fifteen hundred years".
