Herbert Baker's (1862-1946) autobiography. Befriended in his youth by Cecil John Rhodes, Baker designed famous Capital buildings at Pretoria and New Delhi. He also designed many schools, railway stations, churches and cathedrals, war cemeteries and war memorials, as well as edifices in Kenya. His buildings, even those designed for private use, were on a grand scale, and he always paid great attention to detail. His work brought him into contact with many leaders and prominent personalities across the English-speaking world.
