Hardcover copy (pp. [vi], 49, [1] + frontispiece) with original blue cloth boards covered in a clear acetate jacket. The spine is lettered in gilt and the front board is blocked in gilt. The top of the text block has a gilt edge. The title-page and dedication leaf are printed in blue and black. The attractive colour frontispiece (by Kathleen Hale) has the appearance of a blockprint. The jacket has a few marks and light scuffs with two small tears at the top of the spine.

This was the author’s last published work of fiction and it features characters from some of his earlier novels
