Mr. Wilson was practically the first Gold Commissioner in the Transvaal. He threw open the township of Baberton in February 1884, and was, he states, for seventeen years in close relationship with inner Pretoria, and consequently in a position to gain a fair insight into the methods of the officials of the country.
