Synopsis: Describes events pertaining to the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1900) when Boer republics in the Transvaal and Orange Free State laid siege to key British-held towns like Kimberley, Ladysmith, and Mafeking. The Siege of Kimberley, which lasted 124 days, commenced in October 1899. The town was defended by British soldiers and citizens against Boer forces. Diamond magnate Cecil Rhodes was involved, and the residents, including Oliver Ashe himself, endured heavy shelling, including from the Boer's 'Long Tom' artillery.
