Publisher's brown cloth binding with illustrated dust jacket.

100pp. Illustrated by the author. Foreword by General Jan Smuts, being one of around 60-70 he wrote in his lifetime.

The front endpaper contains an original pen sketch by Breuil of presumably an aurochs. The sketch was made on a loose piece of paper which was then secured to the endpaper with tape on the corners. It has a note underneath by the author and is signed.

On the verso of the front endpaper is a pen and colour pencil sketch on card depicting a scene from prehistory. Gift inscription to fellow archaeologist C. van Riet Lowe with caption "L'age de fer commence!" - the beginning of the iron age. The sketch has been secured to the endpaper with tape along the edges.

On the half-title page is a gift inscription to C. van Riet Lowe by Breuil.

Publisher's compliments slip laid down on front paste down and signed by C. van Riet Lowe - University of Witwatersrand.
