xvii, 241pp plus 18 pp index + 12 inserted pp of b/w photographs on gloss art paper. (Photographs of Mendelssohn, Kruger, Fehr, J B Robinson, Louis Cohen, Barney Barnato, Frank Harris, Killie Campbell and Johannes van Schaik.)

Russet linen hardcover boards with black lettering, and pictorial dustjacket and two closed tears. Dustjacket unclipped. Endpapers printed in sepia with "Africa XXV Nova Tabvla" map.

Although published 63 years ago, Godfrey's The Enchanted Door remains perhaps the best Africana book-collectors' primer.
