COUNTER-STRIKE FROM THE SKY
The Rhodesian All-Arms Fireforce in the Wear in the Bush 1974-1980
The idea of "vertical envelopment" was developed between the Rhodesian Air Force and Rhodesian Light Infantry Officers, using helicopters as the primary attack force, reinforced by paratrooper "stop lines" and fixed-wing attack aircraft. The concept was finely honed and used widely, andwith great effect, in the bush war of the 1970's.
Wood looks at the history of the development and use of Fireforce, both in operations within the country as well as being used on external raids into neighboring countries.
The list of Fireforce Commanders, and their signatures, was a project of the Western Cape branch of the Rhodesian Army Association and is unique to this book only.
