Cycads of Africa, by Douglas Goode (edited by Graham Linscott) is a lavishly illustrated record of Goode's safaris into various parts of Africa to photograph and study different species of Encephelartos. Published in 2001, it updates an earlier Cycads of Africa (1989) which was itself the culmination of 20 years of fieldwork and study with the Durban Natural Science Museum.
The current edition includes several new species studied while Goode ranged as far as Nigeria and the Southern Sudan. Cycads of Africa Volume 1 is a complete reference work on the genus Encephalartos and includes all known species of this distinctly African group, as well as the genus Stangeria and one species of Cycas.
