First Edition: 47 pages of letterpress and 13 photogravure plates, printed stiff card wrappers  with new brown cloth spine - the upper cover is splitting at the fold and is delicate.

First Edition: 62 pages of letterpress and 64 photogravure plates of plants on 32 stiff card leaves, printed blue stiff card wrappers, a very good copy.

'Dinter arrived in Swakopmund in June 1897 and immediately began his collecting activities which were to continue throughout his life. It is estimated that he covered more that 40,000 kilometres, on foot, by ox-wagon and by motor truck in the course of his expeditions; his collecting numbers extend to over 8,400 in addition to quantities of living plants and seeds which were not all numbered.'
