Hackett (R.G.) South African Boer War Books, An illustrated bibliography of English language publications relating to the Boer War of 1899-1902, Privately Printed, London 1994, page 83, 'The first section has the title page common to both parts. The record of the 2nd Batt. is compiled by Brigadier-Gen. F. Lloyd. The 2nd Grenadiers formed part of General Rundle's 8th Division. They arrived in the Orange Free State in late April 1900 and continued operating in this area to the end of the campaign. During an arduous tour of 25 months the Battalion was frequently on trek and often engaged. On May 29, 1900 the 2nd sustained significant losses in the action at Biddulphsberg. Thereafter casualties were never severe. The diary of events from March 1900 to Oct. 1902 is succeeded by a list of officers who served during the war.

'The second section, dealing with the 3rd Batt., is compiled by Brevet-Major Hon. A. Russell. The 3rd Grenadiers formed part of the Guards Brigade under Gen. Colville. They advanced with Lord Methuen's force from Orange River Bridge in Nov. 1900, taking part in operations at Belmont, Modder River and Magersfontein. Thereafter the 3rd marched with Lord Roberts' army through the Orange Free State and Transvaal, arriving at Komati Poort on the eastern border by late Sept. 1900. In Nov. of that year the Grenadiers were brought down to Cape Colony to guard drifts on the Orange River. To the end of the campaign they were employed in the Colony in suppressing Boer insurgency. Casualty lists, a campaign itinerary, nominal rolls and other statistics are included.'
