“Paarl Gimnasium is one of South Africa’s most historic Afrikaans high schools and a central institution in the rugby landscape of the Western Cape. Founded in 1858 by Rev Van der Lingen, the school grew from its Dutch Christian origins into a modern coeducational high school with a strong cultural identity, a large student body and a long-standing relationship with the wider Paarl community. The campus sits on Main Road and blends historic architecture with updated facilities supporting academics, sport and student life.

The school is synonymous with elite rugby development. Across more than a century, Paarl Gim has produced some of the country’s most influential Springboks, including Schalk Burger, Jean de Villiers, Marius Joubert, Handré Pollard and De Wet Barry.”
