Author presents practicable descriptions of the geology of the principal gold-mining regions of the world and many of the lesser ones. By providing the positions of known gold deposits, it is believed that the prospector may be aided in the search for undiscovered deposits. "I have attempted in this volume to present so far as practicable descriptions of the geology of the principal gold-mining regions of the world and that of most of the lesser ones. Where good maps were available I have had tracings made from them showing the intrusives with which the gold deposits seem to be generically associated, the rocks older than the intrusives, and also the rocks younger than the intrusives. The chief deposits were located on these maps and reductions are pre-sented herewith.
By illustrating the positions of known gold deposits with respect to the associated igneous intrusives, it is believed that the prospector may be aided in the search for undiscovered deposits...
In the section of the volume that treats prospecting there is very little on the mechanical technique of prospecting and nothing on geophysical prospecting. It is chiefly a summary of the data presented in the book with some suggestions which are intended to be of practical use to the miner and prospector. The relations treated are for the most part very simple and in most districts should be easy to apply by one who has an elementary knowledge of the common rocks....
A considerable number of unpublished maps and other data are presented in this volume...".
