Robert Gwelo Goodman (1871-1939) painted landscapes, interiors of buildings, flower paintings and cityscapes. He became one of the most recognisable artists in South Africa in the first half of the 20th century and his paintings command substantial prices. Increasingly his detailed studies of cities and historical houses and scenes have been recognised as containing important historical information and are often used to illustrate books and studies.
