Contains a 338 page glossary (page 201-539) of Hottentot words where each entry is accompanied with a short linguistic analysis and a reference to the early explorers who recorded it.

Professor G. S. Nienaber was an ethnolinguist who specialised in the history and language of the Hottentots (Khoi-khoi).

Contents: The discovery of the Hottentots, their dances, the development of trust between Hottentots and Settlers, research into the origin of the word "Hottentot", the experts' heated arguments concerning the name "Hottentot", an "unlearnable" language, early successes, etc.
