Limited Edition: 449 pages, illustrated throughout with colour photographs, black cloth titled gilt on the upper cover and spine, a fine copy.

Four hundred an forty-nine copies of this limited edition have been published of which this is number 200, signed by the Editor.

Editor's note: There are only 449 signed and numbered copies of this book, which has been written by some of the top African hunters. The object has been to produce the best, most authentic and entertaining articles on hunting the glamourous members of the Hippotragini Tribe i.e. the horse-like antelopes of Africa, currently available on licence in their natural environment – sable (including three subspecies – Royal, Common and Roosevelt), roan (including three subspecies – Southern, East African and Western) and oryx (including four subspecies – Gemsbok, Fringe Eared, Beisa and Scimitar Horned), as well as an excellent bonus article on hunting Addax in the Sahara Desert.

To this end, a number of experienced hunters – mostly current professionals – have written 21 brand new chapters especially for the book. These contributors read like the Who’s Who of hunting these wonderful animals and include such men such as John Coleman, Kai-Uwe Denker, Stewart Dorrington, Pete Fisher, Wayne Grant, Mark Haldane, Robin Hurt, Jofie Lamprecht, John Oosthuizen and Hans (Scruff) Vermaak, to name but a few.

Apart from in depth research on sable and roan by world renowned experts such as Jeremy Anderson and Salomon Joubert, there is also a detailed chapter by Craig Boddington on rifles and ammunition suitable for Africa’s glamour game, as well as a further 20 articles sourced from hunters of yesteryear such as Cornwallis Harris, Chapman, Gordon-Cumming, Ionides, Maydon, Roosevelt, Swayne, White and others.

Most of the stories have been chosen because they are extremely well-written, full accounts of the hunts in question, which give the reader a sense of what it must have been like to be there with the hunters, to see what they saw and feel what they felt. Some contain direct, indirect and subliminal lessons about hunting these special beasts, although that has not been the main purpose behind their selection, which has been to source the best hunting stories.

The book is complemented by outstanding, full colour photographs provided by the contributors, as well as top professional photographers such as Andy Gooch, Håkan Pohlstrand, Theo Pretorius, Michael Viljoen and Bryan Wilson, as well as gifted amateur photographers like Richard Flack, Skye Hartog, John Newby, Frank Metzner, Christophe Morio, Marco Ritter, Kevin Robertson, Lars Svensson and Coenraad Vermaak.

Altogether, this 456 page book hosts some 670 colour and black and white photographs, making it by far the longest and best illustrated book produced by Peter Flack Productions.

In brief, after reading this book you will have gained almost as much as knowledge as it is possible to learn from a book about hunting Africa’s glamour game. The book will make a welcome addition to any collection of hunting books and not only provide a worthwhile reference source but also top quality entertainment for many seasons to come.
