The frontispiece of Chairman Mr. F. H. Y. Bamford in signed and dated to the year of publication.
Primarily this is a story of the development of the manganese ore resources of South Africa from the discovery in 1922 to the present day.
Interwoven into the story is the history of the company - South African Manganese Limited (Samangan) - which was registered on 22 December 1926, and was the first company to mine the vast manganese fields of the north-west Cape Province.
These deposits are probably the largest in the world, and there are sufficient proven reserves to last for hundreds of years.
In 1975 S.A. Manganese ltd merged its interests with those of Amcor Ltd (formerly African Metals Corporation Ltd) and the name of the company was changed to S.A. Manganese Amcor Limited (Samancor).
In 1976 the Company celebrated its 50th Anniversary, and this book has been written as part of the Golden Jubilee commemoration.
