History of the South African town which is located close to the national highway between Warmbad and Potgietersrus.

The mountain near Nylstroom served as the inspiration for Gerard Moerdyk's design of the Voortrekker Monument.

In the 1840's a group of Voortrekker pioneers known as the Jerusalem Tekkers, under leadership of the prophet Johan Enslin, settled in the region of present-day Nylstroom after believing that they had discovered the source of the Nile. The town's name literally translates as "Nile stream".

The Waterberg congregation is the oldest Dutch Reformed congregation North of Pretoria.
