Photo album with collection of 32 unique b&w photographs with captions - from the route of The Liberty Ship "Rochefort" to Gabon (including Senegal and Mauritania). Rare photos of an native chief with a two of his wives and two of his children, a group of pygmy peoples, hairdresser in Lemamba (in country Bandj'bi), the son of the paddler from N'gounie, children in Moumbaka, etc.

Unique album with 16 sheets of strong paper, and 4 sheets of yellow paper with captions for the 32 unique black & white photographs. All pages are pictured. The photographs shows: A Bandj'bis fertility fetish (reproduction on photo paper); The liberty ship "Rochefort"; Native family in Port-Etienne, native workers in Port-Etienne; The Moors who load fish; Native chief with a two of his wives and two of his children; Hairdresser woman in Lemamba (in country Bandj'bi) with the woman she does her hair and two childrens; A group of pygmy peoples; "So, are you taking me to Paris?" - This was the question posed to the photographer by the central character of this shot, which shows the daily drudgery of laundry (four native woman), in N'gounie, in Mouila; Indigenous district of Dakar; The Sainte-Marie Cathedral in Libreville; Children in Moumbaka; An Eschira chief (Bapounou/Eschira is one of the native languages/tribes) with a two of his wives and two of his children; The son of the paddler from N'gounié; A community of Bandj'bis and Pygmies; at hospital of Dr. Schweitzer and his stuff; Dr. Lange who was in charge of lepers and some of his patients (five women on separate photo); three photos with "the wealth of Gabon" (Okouome) showing extracting trees and transmission by river and road, etc.‎

The "ROCHEFORT" was one of the many "Liberty ships" built in series from 1941 to 1945 during the last world war to transport troops and war material. 76 of them were acquired at the end of the war by the French government to reconstitute a merchant fleet seriously decimated during these dark years. The management of these ships (all named after martyred French towns) was entrusted to several French Shipowners.

Both the album and photographs are in excellent condiion, like new, only front board of album is little bowed.
