Four original documents dating from the period of the Witwatersrand Gold Rush, or simply the "Rand Rush", which resulted in the founding of Johannesburg, also known as the "Golden City".
The four leaves are still held together by the original pin and include:
Two licences that were printed by the Government Printer of the South African Republic "Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek, Z.A.R.", President Paul Kruger's Transvaal Republic.
