SEVEN UNCOMMON SMUTS PAMPHLETS

This lot comprises the following seven pamphlets, all scarce or uncommon:

1. SPEECH Delivered by GENERAL J. C. SMUTS At the Special Congressof the South African Party held at Bloemfontein on Wednesday, October 27th, 1920. 20pp. very fragile pamphlet with the Afrikaans version on the rear 10pp.(TOESPRAAK Gehouden door GENERAAL J.C.SMUTS.........). A very fragile frayed pamphlet with marked browned tape repairs on the front and rear covers. Signature of C.A.P. Viljoen, journalist and friend of Smuts, on both the front and the rear covers. (see images). SABIB Vol 5, pp.231. Only one copy identified.

2. SPEECH by GENERAL SMUTS at the Fourteenth Provincial S.A. Party Congress held at Pretoria, on the 5th and 6th November, 1930. 2 folded stapled leaves - 8pp. with the Afrikaans version (GENERAAL SMUTS SE TOESPRAAK ........) on the rear 4 pages. A good copy of this fragile item. Does not appear to be in SABIB.

3. General Smuts Speech at Bloemfontein November 3, 1939. Why The Union is at War with Nazi Germany. 32pp. pamphlet in the original blue wraps. With frontispiece portrait of Smuts and a photocopy of a Smuts handwritten sentiment. Filing holes not affecting the text otherwise a very good copy.

4. General Smuts exposes THE FOLLY OF NEUTRALITY. 1939. 32pp. pamphlet in the original pictorial wraps. Some illustrations. Filing holes not affecting the text otherwise a very good copy.

5. Generaal Smuts wys op DIE DWAASHEID VAN NEUTRALITEIT. 1939. The Afrikaans version of Item 4 and a lookalike. 32pp. in wraps. Filing holes otherwise a very good copy.

6. Sidi Rezegh and Its Call./ Sidi Rezegh en Sy Oproep. 1942. 22pp. fragile pamplhet in the original pictorial wraps and containing photographic images within. A largish chip along the fore edge of the rear Afrikaans wrapper, otherwise a good copy of this fragile item.

7. Generaal Smuts se Toespraak by die Uniale Kongres van die Verenigde Party - Bloemfontein, 6 Desember, 1944. 18pp. pamphlet in integral printed wraps. Lower corners chipped and filing holes not affecting the text, othewise a very good copy of this fragile item.
