"The Diamond Fields of South Africa" is a book published in 1872 that provides a detailed account of the author's journey to South Africa and his experiences in the diamond fields. The author, who remains unnamed, shares his observations and insights about the diamond industry and other precious jewels. The book also includes notes of the author's journey to and from South Africa, providing a glimpse into the culture and landscapes of the region.

"The journey was made soon after the discovery of the alluvial diggings and the dry mines, and mention is made of "Colesberg Copay (koppie)", "Clip Drift", "Kuskamana", "Sivenelle", and other localities. The account is very interesting, and affords a good description of the exciting days of the early mining camps. The writer left the fields in 1871, at which period he estimated that 5000 labourers were employed by the mines." (Mendelssohn, Vol. I, pages 466-467)
