The Helderberg crashed en route to Mauritius from Taipei on 28 November 1987. All 159 passengers and crew on board perished. Questions are still asked about the cargo that was being carried by the 747 Combi; and the events that surrounded the flight. There have been recent calls to reopen the investigation into determining the cause of the crash following a documentary which re-examined the event. Parts of the 747 salvaged have recently gone on display at OR Tambo Airport.
