Sir Percy FitzPatrick's The Outspan is an outstanding example of the kind of colonial fiction occasioned by the presence of the motley band of expatriate adventurers who flocked to the South African diamond and goldfields in the last two decades of the 19th century. The title story employs a fictional narrator and evokes the fireside ethos of the oral tale. Sought after copy.

Original dark salmon pictorial cloth; Collation complete - 231 pages; Text in English; Ex-libris copy. The binding is tight and firm, but very worn, overall in acceptable condition. Boards and spine rubbed and sunned, corners bumped, spine extremities worn and frayed, partly chipped. Joints with incipient crackings and cloth sepparating all over the line, but inner hinges are whole and secure. Pages/Text block complete and in very good condition, with a bit of yellowing, no foxing or marks throughout. Ex-owner's initials in ink to the top right corner of the title page. Ex-libris label to the front paste down and rear board.
