First Edition: 186 page, woodcut printer's device on the title page, original black cloth titled gilt along the spine, light staining on the endpapers and in the gutter of the last page from moisture in the boards at the time of printing, bumped at the top of the spine causing a crease in the cloth and jacket, a very good copy in the dust jacket - the jacket is printed on thick stock paper and spirit varnished, designed by Ronald Clyne, with the price $3.00 at the top of the front flap.

The colophon on the final unnumbered page reads, 'Three thousand copies of this book have been printed from Intertype Garamond by The Collegiate Press, George Banta Publishing Company, Menasha, Wisconsin. The paper is Winnebago Eggshell. The binding cloth is Holliston Black Novelex.'

The bibliography records 3062 copies as the total edition the extra copies being explained as printer's overruns.

Editor's note on the dust jacket, 'Though widely anthologized, the short science-fiction stories of one of the greatest of modern masters in the field have not heretofore been published in a collection in America. Such masterpieces as The Rat and Automata, as Brain and Original Sin, as well as others of S. Fowler Wright's science fiction are known only to readers of the magazines and the anthologies in which they appeared in this country. Now these fine tales, together with all the remainder among Wright's stories which are at all fantastic, are collected here for the first time.'
