A most interesting work by the wife of Evelyn Smythies, a forestry officer in India’s Kumaon region and Nepal. Mrs. Smythies relates episodes of hunting tiger, panther, goral and other game, including descriptions of hunts with foreign dignitaries and wealthy sportsmen. In one particularly hair-raising episode, she fell to the ground as an enraged tiger tore apart her machan. Only her husband’s quick and accurate shot saved her from a fatal mauling. Original cloth, gilt titles a little dulled. Original endpapers firm and tight. Dust jacket shows wear and tear but is essentially complete. The reverse side of the jacket has been strengthened with masking tape at the folds. Illustrated with photo plates.
