This book is a facsimile reprint of the 1893 first edition published by Rowland Ward. It is a limited edition of 2,000 numbered copies, of which numbers 1–90 comprise the specially bound Collectors’ Edition, 91–100 are Presentation Copies, and 101–2,000 constitute the Ordinary Edition. This is copy No. 1127/2000.
The original 1893 edition, which this volume replicates, contains 503 pages, a frontispiece portrait, 22 plates, 35 text illustrations, a colour folding map, new endpapers, and uncut edges, bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering (no dust jacket).
According to Dr. Kenneth Czech in An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785–1999 (pages 251–252), this work chronicles Selous's adventures in the 1880s and 1890s, featuring encounters with lions, leopards, and rhinoceros near the Zambezi and surrounding rivers, along with elephant hunts in Mashonaland and Matabeleland.
A very good copy showing minor handling wear on the boards and slight spotting on the page edges. The interior is crisp and unblemished, featuring a subtle gift inscription on the second page."
