First Edition: 3 volumes: Volume 1: 359 pages, frontispiece, 31 coloured plates, 18 photogravure plates and text illustrations, hinges weak caused by the weight of these heavy volumes, the set weighs twelve kilograms. Volume 2: 314 pages, frontispiece (folding), 20 colour plates and 11 photogravure plates, coloured map and text illustrations. Volume 3: 232 pages, frontispiece, 6 coloured plates, 8 photogravure plates, 2 coloured folding maps and text illustrations, green cloth with cream buckram spines, gilt monogram of Pease on the upper covers and titled gilt on the spines, edges uncut, bookplates in each volume, corners slightly bumped and worn, a very good set.

Czech (Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of Big Game Hunting Books 1785 – 1999, page 215: Pease recounts ten years of travel and hunting thorough various parts of Africa in this monumental late Victorian work. Volume One details Algeria and the Sahara regions with attendant sport after lions and antelope species. In Volume Two Pease describes his time spent in Somaliland with hunts after lions and elephants, as well as antelopes, moths and butterflies. Volume Three continues a later expedition into Somaliland and southern Abyssinia hunting lions, elephants, rhino and antelopes.
