A member of Bechuanaland Protectorate Police, Hodson's duties carried him into Namaqualand and the region of the southern Kalahari. He hunted gemsbock, hartebeest and springbok enroute, then journeyed from the Chobe River to Victoria Falls where he bagged lion. Near the Nata River, he collected kudu, leopard, and gemsbock. F Vaughn-Kirby also contributes a chapter on Lord Selborne's safari into Rhodesia after eland, gemsbock, kudu, and water buck. A popular work in its day that went through several printings.
