Alexander von Levetzow was active as a publisher from 1892-1897 at Vryheid, which was part of the Transvaal Republic until 1903. After the Anglo-Boer War it was incorporated into the Colony of Natal. This publication bears the scarce imprint of Vrijheid, Z.A.R. (South African Republic).
Von Levetzow published the newspaper De Nieuwe Republikein (1892-1899) and only four books, the most famous being the memoirs of the Voortrekker J.H. Hatting (1893) which was later reprinted in Gustav Preller's Voortrekkermense.
