First edition: xix, 170 pages, coloured frontispiece, 11 coloured plates, 14 black and white plates, numerous illustrations, folding map, light foxing, variant binding with the lion on the upper cover stamped in blind rather than the usual gilt, uncut edges, tape marks on the free endpapers, a good copy.

Czech (Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of Big Game Hunting Books 1785 – 1999, pages 35/36 : “Read all you can about the animals you intend to hunt” writes Brocklehurst in his author's note. He ably describes all manner of big game, presenting them in alphabetical order from addax to Grant's zebra. The text is beautifully complemented by W.H. Riddell's coloured plates and life -size silhouettes of spoor. Included is a six page chapter titled “On Killing Elephant” by W.D.M. Bell
