Czech (Kenneth) Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 -1999, page 228: In his foreword Puxley notes there are three categories of elephant hunters; the “professional hunter” the “tourist hunter” and the “devotee of Africa whose life has mostly been passed in his wanderings up and down the land he loves.” After service in the Boer War he embarked on a number of shooting expeditions into the interior of the continent. In Mozambique he hunted lion and eland with additional eland and trophy buffalo taken in Nyasaland. There are chapters on hunting lion, hippos and giraffe as well. From his narrative, it is easy to note the author fits into the third category.
