'This book, published in the year of the Union's Golden Jubilee, commemorates 50 years of service to the mining industry.'
Publisher's special full leather binding with gilt titles on front panel and spine. Page edges gilt.
Copies in the special binding were given exclusively to the men who feature in this book. This copy was given to Frank Marshall whose picture and biography is on page seventy. His name is gilt embossed on the front panel. This copy contains a letter from the Public Relations Adviser of the Transvaal and Orange Free State Chamber of Mines thanking Mr. Marshall for his co-operation in providing the material required for preparing the book. Included is an original Gouvernements Noot "Government Note" to the value of £1 issued at Pietersburg in 1901 by the Government of the Z.A.R. during the Anglo-Boer War. It appears to have been used by Frank Marshall as a bookmark.
A collection of 148 portrait photographs with short biographies of men who had given half-a-century of their own lifetime to the service of mining.
Of note is that over 72 of the men featured were WWI veterans, 10 were born in Johannesburg before 1900, and 7 were veterans of the Anglo-Boer War.
