Burton, a renowned tiger hunter, includes the experiences of African hunters in this overview of man-eating critters. Among those noted are such familiar names as Selous, Chapman, and Pease, but he also cites encounters with lions, leopards, and crocodiles by the lesser-known likes of Inverarity, Captain Tanner, and Mr. Ryall. He also includes chapters on tigers, panthers, bears, wolves, hyenas, and the like [Czech, p. 47-48]. Original light blue cloth with gilt spine titles. Original endpapers firm and tight. Bump to upper corner of rear cover. Contents tight and virtually free of foxing. Illustrated with photo plates.
