Laurent Guillaume de KONINCK (1809-1887, collection).

[A group of five malacological works, bound in four volumes, bound in the 19th-century in cloth or leather-backed marbled paper-covered boards, each upper cover with a distinctive lozenge-shaped label, lettered in gilt, spines lettered in gilt – three of them with ‘L.De K.’ ].  Provenance: Laurent Guillaume de Koninck (bindings, sold via Louis Agassiz to); The Museum of Comparative Zoology (bookplate, with accession numbers). 

Comprising:

1.Pierre-Joseph van BENEDEN (1809-1894). Memoire sur le Dreissana, nouveau genre de la famille des Mytilacees, avec l’anatomie et la description de deux especes. [Brussels: 18357]. Octavo. 1 lithograph. Early paper wrappers bound in. Provenance: Louis Stoffels (presentation inscription from the author, ex libris inscription by Stoffels?);‘654’ accession number. Off-print. The provenance is apt as de Koninck apprenticed himself to Stoffels.

2.&3.Pierre-Joseph van BENEDEN (1809-1894). Description d’une nouvelle espece du genre Dreissena. [Brussels: 1837]. 1 hand-colored lithograph; Drop-head title:] Response aux observations critique de M. Cantraine, sur le genre Dreissena. [Brussels: 1838]. 2 works in one, small octavo. Provenance: ‘657 bis’ accession number. Off-prints.
