Original paper covered boards with two small coloured photographic illustrations mounted on the upper board, gilt titling and decorations. The contents consisit of blank end papers, a title page and 75 black and white photographic illustrations, each with a caption printed below. The street scenes depict horse and ox drawn carts, so the era pictured must precede the time when motor vehicles were common in the streets. The picture of a street scene in Pietermaritzburg has an electric tram.
CONDITION DETAILS The spine has been repaired with a piece of black tape. The binding is soiled and worn. Internally there are a few soil marks.
