How it works

Register

Bound in original highly decorated brown leather, with extensive gilt rules and tooling and all three text block edges gilt. The lovely original binding is poor, with the front board detached, heavy wear overall, loss of the upper spine panel, and cellotape reinforcement in three places. Fortunately, this is a good candidate for a fine rebind.

The contents are superior to the binding, clean and intact except for the endpapers which bear browning and spotting, and the illustrated frontispiece and half title, which show a moisture stain confined to a .25 inch or less margin at the outer edges of the pages (and not intruding upon the engraving illustrations). The gilt page edges remain reasonably bright, showing only light wear.
